Member Associations

Established in 2004 by Her Majesty the Queen of Bhutan, Respect, Educate, Nurture, Empower Women (RENEW) became an Associate Member Association of IPPF in November 2009. It aims to be the leading organization in shaping the future role of women in Bhutanese Society, helping to reduce vulnerabilities while nurturing and empowering them. Their work is focused on reaching poor, disadvantaged and adolescent girls and women. RENEW has a widespread community-based support (CBS) system (established in 20 districts), and a community outreach programme run from the RENEW centre. Work focuses on sensitization with regard to HIV and AIDS, education in family planning approaches and contraceptive methods, and enhancing the safety of pregnancy and childbirth. A clear problem in Bhutan is the unequal position of women. One of the expressions of gender inequality is high levels of gender-based violence (GBV) which is seen as a natural part of married life, and not as an issue. RENEW has a vigorous education programme designed to reverse such attitudes. Bhutan is a unique country: all development is based on promoting Gross National Happiness (GNH), and comprehensive sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services, acceptance of every individual’s sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), and the practical realization of those rights are regarded as critical components in increasing GNH. Given this political context, RENEW has ambitious targets. Although it has only been established for 10 years, it is making remarkable strides towards the achievement of better SRH and SRHR outcomes for the nation and its people.

Aruba's social and economic challenges during the 1960s has led to the creation of a framework for working together to improve the sexual and reproductive health of the Aruban community. As a result, the Foundation for the Promotion of Responsible Parenthood - Aruba, also referred to as Family Planning Aruba (FPA), was launched on 24 November 1970. Over the past seventy years FPA has fulfilled some of its members/clients and services. Awendia FPA annually provides service to approximately 4,200 clients, reaching 5,250 students with comprehensive sexuality education, distributing 20,000 contraceptive products and 150,000 condoms annually. FPA has over forty-nine years of experience in the field, is recognized as a partner of the International Planned Parenthood Federation and the Aruban Government and has played a crucial role in providing leadership in the family planning movement in Aruba. The mission of the Foundation for the Promotion of Responsible Parenthood - Aruba is to promote the right and accessibility of service, guidance, information and education on contraception and sexual and reproductive health in the Aruban community, without any discrimination of race, religion, political, or sexual orientation.

Founded in 1976, the Dominica Planned Parenthood Association (DPPA) focused on providing information and education to support the government’s clinical service delivery programme in its early years. It began delivering contraceptive services in response to the significant contraceptive needs of Dominicans (particularly among adolescents), and the staffing constraints of the government programme. As a result, people could be sure of at least one inexpensive, private outlet where their family planning needs could be fully met. DPPA’s clinic is located the centre of the capital city and provides a range of services including family planning, pregnancy tests, family counselling and PAP smear screening. There’s an established community outreach programme which provides family planning through volunteers and shop owners, and an extensive programme of information and education activities. These include distributing pamphlets and posters, broadcasting short talks about family planning on radio and television and conducting community discussions. The negative effects of Dominca’s high adolescent pregnancy rate are aggravated by local practices that force pregnant girls to drop out of school permanently. To reach young people, DPPA provides sexuality and life skills education in secondary schools and to adolescents outside the school system through rap sessions, lectures, discussions and films. DPPA has also established an Under 20 Club, a teen group that trains its members as peer educators. BFLA is an associate of an umbrella organization known as the Caribbean Family Planning Affiliation Ltd (CFPA). The Caribbean Family Planning Affiliation (CFPA) is the only regional non-governmental organization (NGO) devoted to family planning and sexual and reproductive health in the Caribbean. CFPA serves 13 island Member Associations and 5 Associate Member Associations in the Caribbean, Central and South America. It supports these Associations with technical assistance and materials, and represents their collective interests at IPPF meetings and in the Caribbean region among governments and NGOs. CFPA Member Associations are located in Anguilla, Antigua, Aruba, Bahamas, Bermuda, Curacao, Dominica, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Nevis and St. Kitts, St. Lucia and St. Vincent. CFPA Associate Member Associations are located in Belize, Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago. The CFPA does not offer any clinical services or distribute family planning methods to clients, but rather focuses its work on governance and institution-building among its Member Associations. The CFPA oversees, manages and analyses core grants to 7 Caribbean Member Associations. The CFPA also submits project proposals for donor funding on behalf of the Associations.  

Formed in 1965, today the Association Guadeloupéenne pour le Planning Familial (AGPF), also known as La Maternite Consciente, oversees maternal and child welfare, and manages immunization, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV/AIDS programmes. It also monitors other work and needs related to sexual and reproductive health (SRH). It operates 5 clinics, which provide contraceptive services, emergency contraception, pregnancy tests, pap smears, STI screening and pre- and post-abortion counselling. AGPF also delivers outreach educational services on contraception and SRH in Creole, to promote the use of clinical services, particularly among migrants from neighbouring islands such as Dominca, Haiti and St.Lucia, who frequently wish to use SRH services but are unable to pay. AGPF's principal source of income is the local government, called the Conseile Generale. The Antigua Planned Parenthood Association is part of the Caribbean Family Planning Affiliation (CFPA).  The Antigua Planned Parenthood Association is the only non-government organization providing a comprehensive range of sexual and reproductive health services. Our goals and objectives are to provide the Antiguan/Barbudan population with safe, affordable, and reliable healthcare including family planning based on informed consent. We deliver an average of 15,960 services each year through our static clinic and 13 pharmacies, we also have 11 physicians. The Caribbean Family Planning Affiliation (CFPA) is the only regional non-governmental organization (NGO) devoted to family planning and sexual and reproductive health in the Caribbean. CPFA serves 12 island Member Associations and 5 Associate Member Associations in the Caribbean, Central and South America. It supports these Associations with technical assistance and materials, and represents their collective interests at IPPF meetings and in the Caribbean region among governments and NGOs. CFPA Member Associations are located in Anguilla, Antigua, Aruba, Bahamas, Bermuda, Curacao, Dominica, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Martinique, St. Lucia and St. Vincent. CFPA Associate Member Associations are located in Belize, Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago. FPAA is a long-standing alliance of the key sexual and reproductive health organisations from each of the Australian states and territories and is their national policy and advocacy voice. Through the IPPF network FPAA links internationally with organisations of like mind, to further sexual and reproductive health and rights for all. Our work cuts across national government strategies and policy frameworks in the portfolios of health, education, gendered violence, e-safety, child sexual abuse and international development. FPAA members provide a wide range of integrated sexual and reproductive health services that include health promotion, prevention, early intervention, diagnosis, treatment and support. We build capacity and strengthen systems by translating the best available evidence into information and education for individuals, community, and health professionals. We are inspired by working in partnership with our priority populations which include people who are: young women of diverse genders and sexualities Aboriginal and Torres Straits Islander of all abilities of all cultures While services, collaborations and cross-referral pathways may vary in each state or territory, our work is always intersectional. We feel privileged to be contributing to the bigger picture.  

Established in 1957 as a grass-root movement, the Mauritius Family Planning & Welfare Association (MFPWA) was one of the earliest organizations in Africa focusing on family planning issues. As the nation struggled to find a way to address pressing population issues, a group of advocates formed MFPWA and started to provide contraceptive services directly to women. In 2018 the MFPWA is governed by an Act of Parliament 2018 as a body corporate.  Today, the organization caters for the sexual and reproductive health (SRH) needs of the whole community. It also has particular strands of activity relating to specific groups including sexually abused children, elderly people, men and marginalized populations on Rodrigues and Agalega Islands.   MFPWA has 30 staff and 50 volunteers and offers services through 2 permanent facilities and several service points.  It also runs a day care centre for infants and children as a social enterprise initiative. The Association delivers services that include family planning, the prevention and management of HIV through voluntary counselling and testing, infertility management, antenatal and post-natal care, post-abortion care, the diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and screening for cancers of the reproductive systems in particular breast, cervical and prostate.  The Association began its first rehabilitation of sexually abused children in 2003 and has built a solid reputation in the domain. Services for the rehabilitation of victims of gender based violence had been extended to Rodrigues Island on a pilot basis in 2019. The Member Association also operates peer-educator-led outreach programmes targeting work places, namely: hotels, manufacturing industries, call centres, male-dominated sectors such as transport, police, agriculture and fisheries.   MFPWA has played a critical role in promoting the integration of comprehensive sexuality education into the national school curriculum and its powerful, informed advocacy has been influential in shaping government’s agenda and policies on SRH and population issues. MFPWA partners with and advises government departments which address health, quality of life, women’s rights, child development, family welfare, social security and youth and sports.  MFPWA works with a large number of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), para-statal and government institutions and international partners like UNFPA, Help Age International and the European Union.   

SALAMA, the Lebanese Association for Family Health, is an NGO founded in 2008 under the statement of registration No 1740. SALAMA advocates for sexual and reproductive health and rights SRHR by inducing the concerned authorities in Lebanon to support and protect SRHR, promotes and provides high quality SRH services (for children, young people, men and women), and raises awareness for all groups in the society (particularly the underserved and marginalized) in order that they make informed decisions regarding their SRHR. SALAMA is a member of different working groups and networks in Lebanon and at the Arab world regional level. SALAMA’s objectives are: Gain Support of decision makers and champions to modify, approve and activate laws and develop national strategies related to SRHR issues. Strengthen partnerships with non- governmental and private organizations, women and youth groups, and champions to advocate for SRHR. Empower youth on comprehensive sexuality education CSE in order to fulfill their sexual and reproductive rights. Increase awareness of community and individuals on SRHR issues, stressing on engaging champions, intellectuals and media. Provide high quality SRH services, particularly to the marginalized and displaced people. Enable SRH services especially to the marginalized and displaced people through other stakeholders. Enhance The effectiveness of the association & Mobilize Resources. Expand the volunteers and activists base and enhance their capacities. SALAMA has 1 clinic in Bekaa- Zahle (Karak), targeting around 4,000 beneficiaries and providing around 40,000 services per year.    

Established in June 2009 as a not-for-profit voluntary non-governmental organization, the Yemeni Association for Reproductive Health (YARH) is registered with the Ministry of Social Affairs. YARH became an IPPF Member Association in 2010. YARH carries out its activities to contribute in achieving the following goals: Providing services and rights in the field of high-quality reproductive health provided, enables through the outlets of partners in the public and private sectors, and information and family planning based on of voluntary acceptance and conscious choice without exerting any pressure. Providing family with preventive and curative services in the field of RH/FP and Primary Health Care. Participate and contribute to the implementation of sustainable development programs and humanitarian programs that promote the health and well-being of society. Enhancing the commitment of decision makers to activate legislation and policies on SRH and FP methods. Enhancing the role of women and youth leaderships as advocates for change. Increase youth access to CSE. Raising community awareness by engaging influencers and media professionals in promoting reproductive rights and health. Strengthening the association’s institutional capabilities, increasing its financial resources, and diversifying its sources of income. Increasing the number of volunteers and active activists in the association.  Through 2 static clinics and 1 youth-friendly service centre, the Member Association provides quality services to the people of Yemen. It has about 484 volunteers and staff working on SRHR, HIV, CSE, and Youth issues on the promotion of awareness amongst young people to empower them to make informed decisions concerning their SRH. YARH plays a key role in building strategic partnerships with other organisations concerned with young people's programmes in Yemen, and involves the young in identifying, articulating, implementing, monitoring and evaluating youth-friendly projects. YARH provides SRH, FP, Primary Health Care, and MCH. The average no. of services at the static clinics between 23,500 services, this number increased during our implementation projects funded by donors.   During 2018-2019 we implemented one year project funded by both GoJ-SB, and JTF projects targeted IDP’s and host communities, services provided reached more than 65.000 clients.  

The Papua New Guinea Family Health Association (PNGFHA) was established in 1981 and registered in the same year under Section 7 of the Associations Incorporation Act, Papua New Guinea. PNGFHA became an IPPF Collaborative Partner in 2001 and then an Associate Member, approved at the December 2020 Board of Trustees meeting.   The Association's Head Office was originally based in Lae, Morobe, but was relocated to the capital Port Moresby, in 2015. PNGFHA currently operates across 8 static clinics in Port Moresby (3), Lae, Markham and Bulolo (Morobe Province), Goroka (Eastern Highlands Province), and Kokopo (East New Britain Province), and are operated from facilities provided either by the Provincial Health or the district authorities.  PNGFHA has a staff of 25, both clinical and non-clinical, and is supported by an extensive network of volunteers.  Each clinic has regular outreach services to remote populations, providing safe and confidential SRH services and raising awareness.  In 2021, PNGFHA delivered 220,038 SRH services to 53,497 clients, more than 90 per cent of whom were poor/ vulnerable. The clinics provide a wide range of SRH services including STI and HIV awareness, family planning, responding to cases of gender-based violence, and counselling. Legal services for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) are also provided due to need. Other programs include the youth/adolescence comprehensive sexuality education with out-of-school and in-school youths. Various outreach programs such as mobile clinics and awareness have also been implemented in partnership with local Provincial Health authorities.  Currently PNGFHA have 3 furnished operational youth centres and youth clinic which provide support for the youth volunteer network, community outreach, CSE both in and out of school. Youth friendly spaces offer youth the opportunity to access information, receive counselling and a friendly safe space where young people can meet and share ideas. The youth friendly clinic provides access to quality and relevant youth centred SRH services and referrals, in the case of SGBV, by staff that are sensitive and trained to dealing with young people. Outreach involves activities mostly identified by the young people themselves, ranging from awareness in a school settings and communities, during a community event, community and government organised activities such as cultural shows and sports events. Through outreach events, trained youths are able to reach out to their peers and motivate them to access more information and services.
